What is different about looking for jobs today in Oxford compared to 10 years ago

This news item deals with the ever changing recruitment market and is designed to help people that are searching for jobs today and also for people who are looking to possibly make a career change in the not too distant future.

As anyone who watched the recruitment market will no doubt have noticed, jobs today often seem to be on a contract or temporary basis. Naturally this can be somewhat disconcerting to anyone who has mostly been employed on a permanent basis up until now, however in the greater scheme of things this is nothing to be afraid of.

Jobs aren’t always for life nowadays

Jobs today alas just aren’t always ‘for life’ anymore and thus even if you’re employed on a permanent basis there is no 100 percent guarantee that your job will be permanent.

The best way to look at jobs today is that even if the contract type being offered by the employer isn’t exactly what you might have wanted in an ideal world – is to consider a temporary or contract position to be a great opportunity to ‘get your foot in the door’ and also to get to know the employer to see how much you enjoy working there before you make a permanent commitment to them.
