Secondments from the education sector are possible.

This position is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check (formerly Criminal Records Bureau check) and this post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.

West Sussex County Council is committed to keeping our children, young people and vulnerable adults safe. We want West Sussex to be a place where people want to live and work and where children can grow up to achieve their full potential.

The education sector has a vital role to play in this, particularly in the successful delivery of ‘Prevent’, part of the Government’s Counter Terrorism Strategy. The aim of Prevent is to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism. The new role of Prevent Education Officer will work with schools and other education providers across all key stages to deliver Prevent activity to support young people so they are not drawn into terrorism or extremism, and work with institutions where there may be risks of radicalisation.

This is a high profile role and we are seeking an exceptional candidate - a confident and resilient individual with excellent communication skills. You will need to be politically astute and able to work at all levels within a wide range of partner organisations. You will have strong engagement and influencing skills and be able to manage projects and competing priorities in a range of settings.

This post will be based predominantly around the Crawley area but will require travel across the county.

For an informal discussion about the post, please contact Beverly Knight, Vulnerable Individuals Team Manager, Community Safety & Wellbeing Service
